Too Smart to Make Money on the Internet?

One of the counterintuitive things I've discovered in internet marketing is that you don't really need to be super smart to make a big success. In fact, I've seen a lot of smart people who know as much (or more) than the "gurus" really struggle to make their business grow.

So if it's not about how smart you are, what is it?

I'll pose some answers to that in a moment, but first - what keeps the really smart person from just making a killing? If they've read everything that's taught, they should be an expert, right?

Part of the problem is that there is just so many different ways to make a living from the internet it can be difficult to pick just one. There are things like creating AdSense sites, affiliate marketing, eCommerce, creating downloadable products, selling on eBay, etc.

Someone who really understands how to do all of those things mike get stuck with trying to pick just one and never move forward. Or they might get started with one business model and find that there's another they want to try out. The problem comes not with trying to figure out how to make something work, but focusing on just one project at a time.

So that's really a big part of making an online business work: just focus on one thing until it's generating a profit before moving on to the next. There are so many good ideas out there, and it's easy to get started with many of them, that focus becomes an important skill to master.

It really puzzled me, and kind of irritated me, when I would read someone's training material, listen to a training call, or watch a training video and I would know more than the person giving the call! That's especially true when it comes to the technical stuff because that's one of the things I really enjoy.

So when someone would come on and say "I really don't know how to put a decent web site together, but here's how I made all this money…" it would almost shut my brain down to anything else they had to say.

I think I've gotten over that now. ;)

These days I know that it just takes time and focus on a plan. It's not likely to come overnight, which is why patience is also important. What you sometimes see as an overnight success may have been months or years in the making. It's only the end result that may seem like overnight success. The same is true with [tag-tec]network marketing online[/tag-tec].

Keep that in mind as you build your own empire. ;)
